BACKGROUND
Ourclient wants to scale up production of its new line of engineering-to-order inverters using a modular design, with the goal of reducing manufacturing costs and production time for its products.
THE IAC APPROACH
Afteran initial scoping phase designed to map out the product's features and identify the key modules and their diversity, workshops are organized by module to:
- Challenge internal constraints and technical choices,
- Determine the number of modules needed for each function,
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and manufacturing time,
- Confirm cost-reduction objectives with strategic partners.
Throughout the modular design project, the module definition schedule is tracked using visual management tools.
RESULTS
- A drastic reduction (up to a 20-fold decrease) in the number of modules needed to meet customer demand,
- A 10 to 30 percent reduction in operational costs,
- Adherence to the schedules for defining the modules of the new product line.
